Growing Gateway Eco District
How We Were Created
Growing Gateway Eco District was created as a pilot project by the City of Portland along with four other areas of the city in 2009. The stakeholders of the Gateway area came together and formed a committee that has been working on setting goals and projects that will help create economic growth and local jobs for our community while incorporating sustainability and education through our work.
At the end of 2012 the City of Portland unanimously voted to officially recognize the 5 Eco Districts.
We have formed a board of directors, a stakeholders group and created a non-profit called Growing Gateway, LLC. We are currently working on becoming a 501C3 non-profit so we can apply for grants and raise money for our work to be done in our district.
We meet once a month at Adventist Pavilion from 4:00pm until 5:30pm come help us or to learn more or get involved call us at 503-251-7610.
Our Vision
The Growing Gateway Eco District is a community driven initiative to organize, identify and implement projects, which will lead to a more sustainable neighborhood where people want to live and work.
It includes residents, small businesses, property owners and institutions that are committed to improving the environment while meeting long standing neighborhood needs such as jobs, safety and affordability.
